Mp mash final documentary

We created  a mash up the streets doco on a nice sunny wellington day. Our intentions were to ask of pat questions on polititians and this could be used as a little clip about our website and how we are into taking the mickey. I was the anchor but the kenny and matt gave there two cents aswell. Kenny was the cameraman. Matt and I took parts of the doco and did some edits while kenny worked on the soundscape. Kenny did a lot of the final editing while we gave him ideas over his shoulder. we like the way it all turned out.

MP mash  could become even popular. we have set up the foundations for a great resource on NZ politics.

Final Presentation for project three

I have been busy with the group getting a following for a website. We came across a random person who had actually been to our site which was pretty awesome! We are trying to get the word out through facebook and it seems to be working. With people adding us every day and adding the odd person we are creeping closer to the 100 mark. not a bad effort for a two week old profile. We set up our rss feed in our facebook feed and it sends a statement out to our friends every 3-4 hours, a random clip of news or a view directly from our main pipe from our homepage.

Corporate Identity Document

I just finished the corporate identity document. It took ages!

Logo for our video clips/ Ads

Using After Effects ianimated the logo and used a bit of text and sound to make a simple effective short. Byron helped me animate the NZ politics logo spin the way it does.

Recipe cards

I'm working on a recipe card to pass out to the general public.
This is the starting one. done with an earlier logo

The New look for our website

What follows is a pretty long winded series of website developement but its a really great way to show my work process and how my thoughts evolved and changed to come out with the final scheme.

I chose to stick with white for the main part of the site as it will house our existing content nicely.

Establishing our brands identity.

We agreed to make the website cleaner and more refined and i set out designing a new logo. Don't ask me why, but i enjoy the graphic design aspects so i was keen to make mp mash a site worth visiting not just in the content but aesthetically to. My logos began;

I stuck with our orange and black theme for the start. I figure we need a logo which is more than just the mp mash words and people will be able to relate to an object to.

I played around with different colours and strokes and showed the group my ideas. they wanted something which related to the word mash as an adjective so matt and I played around with the following purple and green logos.

I went away over night and came up with the final series of logos and chose the colour scheme for the new logo.

The anvil has an affiliation with the cartoon world. The colours come from the constructivist movement which is well known in history for rejected the idea of "art for arts sake"in favour of art as a practice directed towards social purposes.

Mash Recipes

I came up with the idea to create a series of mash potatoe recipes to take the mickey of the party leaders. The ingredients relate to the tastes of the party, the more personal side of the politician.
I have an idea that we would create flyers and give one ingredient out to members of the public.
It could be a good addition to our website and encourage users to put up their favourite mash recipe. The recipes are as follows;

John’s National Standard Mash
2 lbs. Karaka Potatoes, diced
2 garlic cloves, peeled
1 c (4 ounces) crumbled blue cheese
½ c super blue milk
2 Tbs chopped fresh parsley
¼ tsp ground black pepper

Place potatoes and garlic in a large saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil; cook 15 minutes or until tender. Drain. Place potato mixture and remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Mash to desired consistency.

Phil’s Nanny Goat Mash
3 lbs. Red Rascal potatoes, diced
1 ¼ tsp salt, divided
2 Tbs butter
¾ c (6 ounces) goat cheese
¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 c Green milk
2 Tbs finely chopped fresh chives

1. Place potatoes in a saucepan, and cover with cold water to 2 inches above. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes or until tender; drain. Return the potatoes to pan over low heat; add remaining 1 teaspoon salt and butter to pan. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher to desired consistency.
2. Add cheese and pepper to potato mixture; stir until cheese melts. Stir in milk; cook 1 minute or until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; stir in chives.

Jeanette’s Green onion and Cauliflower Mash

Toss oil, cauliflower, and garlic on a jelly-roll pan. Bake at 260°C for 20 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Place cauliflower mixture in a large bowl. Add onions and remaining ingredients to cauliflower mixture; mash with a potato masher.

3. Heat cream and butter in a small saucepan until butter is melted. Add cream mixture and remaining ingredients to potatoes. Mash together with a spoon or fork until liquid is absorbed.
4. Spoon into a 2-quart baking dish. Bake at 180°C for 10 minutes or until warm. Serve immediately

LeaderBeat for John Key

Matt came up with the idea to make prank calls for advertising our site. He wanted to use the original leaderbeat but their weren't enough sound files to keep someone on the line. I came up with a new John Key inspired version.

LeaderBeat version 2.0

I found it difficult finding John Key asking questions, but he wouldn't be any good if he asked questions.

Quartz Background

I made a backround for the screensaver, i super-imposed a local four square into the lawns at parliament, bringing the community and a bit of our indentity into parliament.

Word Machine Finished

To make my machine insync with the website I used the same blocks found in the seating plan i made. I used a proportionate amount of blocks for each party and assembled them similar to the house. I found and cut up sound clips from speeches of each party. I dubbed directly through the internet through audio recording software. I was looking to find intersting parts of speeches to give good affect when overlayed. Using actionscript i assigned the buttons to the sound files which took a lot longer than i expected - but all my trial and error will help in the future. I ended up with a pretty funny player, i really like simplicity of it. Some current events covered to.

Word machine idea

I suggested to the group i could create a mash up player for words when you pressed buttons on the keyboard. i got my inspiration from this sound generator.

I then took my logo development a stage further by incorporating the seat layout i made and producing letters with the vectors. Started out with a mash up of colours:

The colours are a good representation of mash but the group thought a more simplistic look would be more effective.

I changed the majority to single white for the final and kept the orange lead-edge line. I am pretty happy with the final result against the green of our webpage.

Logo development

I had a go at making some logos for the site.
My first one could possibly be used for our video masher, I took the idea from the T.V series M*A*S*H.

Second Idea was pretty basic, don't think i pulled it off all that well but just added a stylized tie on the bottom of a P. Font Based logo which can be very effective due to simplicity.

Pipe for home page

We wanted to create a pipe for the home page that would involve all content that was coming into our site through twitter feeds. When we generated a group of twitter searches using key words and the "union" function there were double-ups in the search results which wasn't ideal. To counter this problem we decided to follow specific peoples tweets, people who have specialize in parliamentary tweeting.

Seating revisal

showed the group my first seat layout and we all agreed it was too busy and a bit complicated. I went back and generated a new seat layout usig more basic squares and single colours which represented each party.

Then i uploaded the corresponding colours for each party to drupal (I blanked out the other colours in light grey).

Seating Plan

I have just mocked up the parliamentary seating plan to be used in order to locate members of parliament and also to give a better understanding of how the members sit and who actually makes up power. I need to make the Seats scroll-over so you can see who is sitting where, probably display on the table at the front of the house. I have colour coded the seats. The picture to the left is from the elections 2008 and i like its simplicity.

This is the starting one i did:

Project 2

So i have begun figuring out pipes for the MP's and using twitter i can list updated information from public members as they come in. There still is the opportunity to establish picture linking within headings and i need to get the filter bar working more efficiently. We have decided to make the site more user orientated toward uploading video content, as youtube is to large. Making the users input their own snipets means they can tag word structure within the video and scentences will be easier to generate. Tag lines such as "MP" "Words Stated." if we could make nodes between words then the possibilities to create scentences is increased. I am currently making an interface for the MP's and a navigation page using a layout from the house of representatives chamber on Freehand.

311 Design Propasal

At the moment I am drafting up ideas using the wiki and then I can block out what I need in my design document. I have read through the web monkey tutorial and I will follow the steps when i make my doco. Having trouble finding websites similar to the mediazone purpose. I will make some mockups in photoshop after i have drafted some on paper.
